Matthew Thorson, MD

Matthew G. Thorson, MD, is one of the interventional spine and pain management physicians practicing at Interventional Pain Specialists of Wisconsin, SC in Hudson and Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Dr. Thorson grew up on a farmstead near West Fargo, North Dakota. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota and earned his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. After medical school, he completed a Transitional Year Residency Program at the University of North Dakota/Meritcare (now Sanford) in Fargo, North Dakota. He then entered his residency in anesthesiology at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. For more advanced training, he transferred to the University of Florida Anesthesiology Residency Program. He then entered the Fellowship program in Pain Medicine at the University of Iowa School of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Thorson began his career in interventional pain medicine at TRIA Orthopedic Center in Minneapolis. He opened Advanced Spine and Pain Clinics in 2012. He is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Thorson is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology; Minnesota Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, where he serves as secretary on the Board of Directors; Spine Intervention Society; American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians; North American Spine Society; and International Cellular Medicine Society. He and his colleagues are involved in cutting-edge Institutional Research Board-approved research: “Effectiveness of Human Amniotic Fluid Allograft for Low Back Pain.” He has attended numerous conferences and courses on interventional pain medicine, ethical prescribing practices, minimally invasive spine procedures, and regenerative medicine to keep up to date on the best information and technology for his patients. He has also spoken at several events on interventional pain issues, legislative issues, and regenerative medicine. Dr. Thorson has become one of the leading experts on the use of cellular therapies and regenerative medicine for the treatment of many chronic diseases and pain issues. Outside of the office, he enjoys traveling, spending time with his silver lab named Cash, boating, working out, and golfing.

John Brendel, MD

John Brendel, MD, is an interventional pain physician at Interventional Pain Specialists of Wisconsin, which has locations in Hudson and Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He has been practicing medicine in Wisconsin for nearly 25 years and is one of the region’s top specialists in interventional pain medicine. He is board-certified by the American Society of Anesthesiology and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Brendel was born and raised in Wisconsin. He grew up in the Milwaukee area and earned a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Virginia Medical School before returning to Wisconsin to practice medicine. Dr. Brendel saw a need for pain management in Wisconsin. He wanted to create a place where he could build strong relationships with patients and care for them as long as they needed. So, in 2003, he founded his own clinic—Interventional Pain Specialists of Wisconsin. At Interventional Pain Specialists of Wisconsin, Dr. Brendel is dedicated to helping patients find pain relief. He pinpoints and treats the physical source of pain, working to identify compounding issues like stress and lifestyle. Over time, his practice has grown. Jenni Mincoff, NP

Nearly 10 Years of Providing Personalized and Effective Care for each Individual Patient Jenni Mincoff is a board certified and state-licensed nurse practitioner who works with Dr. Brendel to help patients find pain relief. Jenni has been in healthcare for nearly 10 years. Much of her career focused on family practice, maternity care and urgent care, so she brings a broad perspective to pain management and considers the whole patient when providing care. A Provider Who Listens and Puts You at Ease When you first work with Jenni, she’ll talk with you about your unique situation. She knows that anxiety and fear are often a big part of being in pain, so she will try to put you at ease. She’ll ask questions and will take time to listen. If you haven’t had testing recently, she may request some scans, CTs or MRIs that can help find out what is truly going on. When she and Dr. Brendel have a clear picture of your situation, they will work with you to create a treatment plan designed to provide real relief.
